Uber Women Service to Launch in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Uber will launch its women-only ride option in Cancun this week, joining Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Los Cabos as the first cities to offer the feature.

The service, called Uber Women, allows female passengers to request trips exclusively with female drivers. It will be available from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“Uber Women is the result of our long-term commitment to prioritizing women’s experience on the platform,” said Cecilia Román, Uber’s communications manager. “Since the 2020 launch of Ellas — which lets female drivers choose trips with women — we’ve heard that users want an equivalent function in the app. We understand the importance of mobility for women’s development and opportunities, and this solution aims to help more women get where they want to go, as they choose.”

The feature offers flexible usage modes: preferences for all trips, scheduled trips, and immediate trips. Users can select Uber Women directly in the app when requesting a ride. If no female driver is nearby or wait times are too long, the app will ask the user if she wants to wait longer or accept a male driver.
