Two Men Face Trial for Violent Cancun Robbery Caught on Video

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A judge has ordered two men to stand trial for the violent robbery of a young man in Cancun, a crime that was caught on video, the State Prosecutor’s Office said.

The suspects, identified as Manuel Andrés “N,” also known as “Monkey,” and Henry Alexander “N,” also known as “Capi,” were formally bound over for trial by a control judge, according to prosecutors.

The robbery took place on July 20 on Avenida Limones in the Villas del Mar II neighborhood. The victim was walking along the street when a black-and-green motorcycle approached and its occupants ordered him to stop.

According to the investigation file, the man tried to walk away, but Monkey got off the motorcycle to chase him while Capi, who was driving, blocked his path. Monkey then allegedly snatched the victim’s backpack and struck him in the face. The victim managed to reach his home and called 911.

Prosecutors said Monkey is believed to have led a group dedicated to violent robberies of pedestrians and may have coordinated surveillance to identify potential victims.

After reviewing the evidence, the judge bound both suspects over for trial and imposed preventive detention for two years, or for the duration of the judicial process.

Authorities urged anyone with information about other possible crimes involving the two suspects to report it.
