Cancún, Quintana Roo — Hotel occupancy across Mexico’s Caribbean coast rebounded to an average of 62.1% at the start of November, according to the Quintana Roo Tourism Information System, reversing a weak October in which rates in some destinations fell below 50%.

The state Tourism Department report recorded 444,227 tourists staying in the state’s 12 destinations and 1,477 arriving flights — 568 domestic and 909 international — with Cancún International Airport serving as the main gateway.

State officials and business leaders described the figure as a turning point and the start of the upward curve toward the high winter season. Cancún’s airport is now handling more than 400 daily operations, supported by more than 20 newly announced routes and the return of frequencies from American, Delta, United, Air Canada, Viva and Volaris, along with added service to Europe.

The pickup coincides with Day of the Dead festival programs in Cancún, Puerto Morelos, Tulum and Cozumel, which expanded their schedules with monumental altars, catrina parades, food tastings and concerts, generating extra overnight stays and higher spending in restaurants and local businesses.

For the hotel industry, the Day of the Dead long weekend serves as a gauge for the year-end, drawing domestic travelers taking advantage of the extended holiday as well as international visitors interested in the Mexican tradition.

In the coming weeks, the expectation is that occupancy will exceed 70% as the Winter Travel season opens and the Mexican Caribbean takes part in the World Travel Market in London, where routes and frequencies for 2027 will be negotiated.
