Tulum, Quintana Roo — After weeks of protests over the installation of a telecommunications antenna in the Aldea Zamá residential development, residents have reached an agreement with municipal and state authorities to address their concerns and find a consensus solution.
Around 25 residents, government representatives, and project stakeholders participated in a meeting that led to the commitments. Under the deal, the antenna will be moved to a space within the local sports complex, a proposal previously suggested by the community as a viable alternative to minimize impact on the residential area.
In addition to the relocation, authorities agreed to implement environmental compensation measures, including a reforestation effort covering 576 square meters to strengthen green spaces and mitigate the impact of the telecom project.
Pamela Hebu, a businesswoman and Aldea Zamá resident, called the meeting positive, saying it opened communication channels and built consensus for the community. She noted that government agencies showed willingness to listen to residents’ concerns and address their requests.
Hebu said the dialogue process was key to finding alternatives that balance infrastructure and connectivity needs with protecting the urban and environmental character of the residential development.
The agreements will be formalized during a city council session scheduled for Thursday, where officials are expected to approve the mechanisms for the antenna relocation and complementary actions.
Authorities and residents hope this concludes a negotiation process that saw broad citizen participation and focused on solutions that serve both development needs and quality of life in Aldea Zamá.
