Tulum, Quintana Roo — Mayor Diego Castanon Trejo has awarded 1,000 municipal scholarships to students across all educational levels in an effort to prevent school dropouts caused by financial hardship.
The mayor led the “First Delivery of Municipal Educational Scholarships 2026” ceremony, stating the initiative aims to guarantee the right to education for children and youth in Tulum. “Since the beginning of this administration, we have worked to ensure that every child and young person in Tulum has the opportunity to continue their studies without economic difficulties being an obstacle,” Castanon said.
He announced that the scholarship program will be extended to preschool students for the 2026-2027 school year, reflecting the government’s conviction that education is the best investment it can make.
Nilvia Lizama, the general director of Education, detailed that this first round of awards benefits 440 elementary school students, 430 middle school students including those with disabilities, 80 high school students, and 50 university-level students.
The municipal government stated the program seeks to support families who make constant efforts to support their children’s education, aiming to make education a shared priority between society and government.
