Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tourism businesses, local authorities, and Mexicana de Aviación have launched a joint strategy to boost domestic tourism to Tulum by increasing flight frequencies and offering promotional packages.

The initiative, led by the Tulum Trust for Tourism Promotion and Economic Development, aims to capitalize on the summer season and make the destination more accessible to Mexican travelers. Around 85 local businesses — including hotels, restaurants, and cenotes — have signed on to offer discounted rates that will be marketed through travel agencies nationwide.

Mario Cruz Rodríguez, president of the trust, said the goal is to reposition Tulum among Mexican tourists after high costs in recent years limited arrivals from this segment. “We want to offer competitive alternatives that increase occupancy and benefit the entire local supply chain,” he said.

Businessman Jorge Portilla Mánica noted that the destination’s economic difficulties have made collaboration essential. “Tulum is going through a tough time, and we see this initiative with hope,” he said, adding that joint efforts between the private sector and tourism stakeholders will be key to economic recovery.

Luis Mariano Mendieta, deputy director of Sales and Marketing at Mexicana de Aviación, said the airline will increase frequencies on specific dates in July and August, offering promotional fares to boost passenger capacity. The airline currently connects Chetumal, Cancún, and Tulum, and the new measures aim to strengthen tourist flow to Quintana Roo during the vacation season.

Representatives from the business sector and tourism authorities at all three levels of government attended the presentation, agreeing on the importance of recovering the national market as part of the strategy to revive Tulum’s economy.
