Three men in handcuffs being led by police officers

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Three men have been formally charged with aggravated homicide in the death of a teenager in Cancun, the State Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Ian Oliver “N,” José “N,” and Roger Saúl “N” were ordered held in pretrial detention for up to two years or the duration of the judicial process, a judge ruled after reviewing evidence presented by prosecutors.

According to the investigation, on January 6, 2025, the suspects allegedly lured the minor to the irregular settlement known as Terrenos. They then took him to a remote dirt road, where they beat him and killed him by asphyxiation.

Authorities said the three are suspected members of a drug trafficking cell operating in the municipality. Two other individuals, Anthony de Jesús “N” and José Alexander “N,” had previously been charged in connection with the same case for the crime of disappearance committed by private individuals.

With these arrests, a total of five people have been linked to the killing, which shocked the city. The investigation continues.
