Costa Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Authorities inaugurated a new Emergency Services Center in Punta Sam on Wednesday, aiming to improve emergency response in one of the fastest-growing tourist areas of Isla Mujeres municipality.

Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde led the opening ceremony, highlighting that the facility is part of a broader strategy to enhance safety and services for local families, visitors, and workers.

The center houses the operational base for Civil Protection and Fire Department personnel, allowing faster response to accidents, hydrometeorological events, and other emergencies.

During the inaugural tour, municipal and state officials inspected the facilities and equipment. The center includes operational spaces, rest areas for staff, warehouses, administrative offices, a medical area, a meeting room, and specialized equipment for emergency coordination.

Gómez Ricalde noted that the rapid development of Costa Mujeres requires modern infrastructure to ensure safety and well-being. She added that the new center complements other projects in the area, including a C2 command and control center, a bike path and pedestrian walkway in Punta Sam, rehabilitation of the access booth, and 11.5 kilometers of street lighting.
