Suspect in Lizbeth Bustos Murder Extradited to Cancun After Arrest in Chiapas

Yadriel N, suspect in the murder of Lizbeth Bustos, being escorted by police officers at Cancun International Airport

Cancun, Quintana Roo — The main suspect in the murder of Lizbeth Bustos arrived in Cancun on Friday afternoon, escorted by state police officers from Chiapas, after being arrested at a highway checkpoint in Tapachula near the Guatemalan border.

Yadriel “N,” a Cuban national, was taken into custody Wednesday while allegedly attempting to flee to Central America using false documents. He was handed over to the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office upon landing at Cancun International Airport and immediately transferred to the prosecutor’s offices in the city.

A heavy security operation accompanied the transfer from the airport to the prosecutor’s building to prevent any incidents and ensure the suspect’s appearance before authorities.

Bustos, a mother of two originally from Minatitlan, Veracruz, was reported missing on June 16. Her body was found buried in the backyard of the home she shared with the suspect in Cancun on Saturday, July 4. An official autopsy determined she died of asphyxiation by strangulation.

In the coming hours, a judge will determine the legal status of Yadriel “N,” who is expected to be sent to the Cancun prison to face charges of femicide. Local feminist groups, including the collective Xtabay, are demanding the full force of the law and have called for no leniency for the suspect.
