Police officers conducting vehicle inspections at a security checkpoint in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — Authorities deployed a security operation at highway entrances to this municipality following violent incidents Tuesday afternoon in the nearby municipal seat of José María Morelos, where gunfire was reported.

State police officers established a vehicle inspection checkpoint on the road from Felipe Carrillo Puerto to Mérida, conducting searches on vehicles entering and leaving the municipality. The police presence has led to constant movement of patrols and security units in the area.

According to initial reports, the operation was implemented as a preventive measure to locate possible armed individuals who allegedly fled after disturbances hours earlier in José María Morelos, a municipality in Quintana Roo’s Maya Zone.

Preliminary information also indicated the seizure of a vehicle on the highway leading to the community of San Antonio Tuk, which is allegedly connected to armed individuals moving through the region. This incident intensified the mobilization of security personnel at various strategic points in the municipality.

Authorities have not yet issued a detailed official report on the incidents or possible arrests. However, the surveillance deployment continues at highway entrances and nearby areas, with monitoring coordinated among different security agencies.

Residents were advised to exercise caution when traveling on regional highways and to report any suspicious activity to emergency lines as security operations continue in the area.
