Isaac Del Toro Wins Montreal Grand Prix in Canadian Classic Debut

Montreal, Canada — Mexican cyclist Isaac Del Toro won the Montreal Grand Prix on Sunday, taking the Canadian classic in his first-ever appearance at the race.

Del Toro, who had finished mid-pack at the Quebec Grand Prix, saved his best for Montreal. He beat France’s Paul Seixas in a close duel, relegating him to second place — the same result the two riders produced in the young rider classification at the 2026 Tour de France, where the Mexican took the title and finished third overall.

Unlike Quebec, where he attacked late and crossed the line 55th, Del Toro read the race better in Montreal and produced a flawless finish, backed by strong work from teammates Adam Yates and Brandon McNulty.

The Mexican traded blows with Seixas over the final 10 kilometers, with the pair pulling clear to open a gap of up to 27 seconds on star rider Remco Evenepoel in a display of raw power.

Yates absorbed the workload at the front before dropping back to the group containing McNulty, last year’s winner, who finished third this time.

“We tried to have riders up front and that helped. They simply put me in position to fight for the victory,” Del Toro said after his 12th win of the year.

Del Toro, a native of Baja California, now turns his focus to the World Cycling Championships. He will race the individual time trial on September 20 and the road race on September 27.
