Second Anti-Foreigner March in Cancun Draws Only One Participant

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A second attempt to organize a march against foreigners in Cancun fizzled out Thursday evening, with only one person showing up at the designated meeting point.

The protest, called for 5 p.m. at the Glorieta de El Ceviche, aimed to demand stricter immigration enforcement from the National Immigration Institute (INM). The lone attendee expressed frustration that no one else responded to the call, criticizing Mexicans for not taking to the streets and instead limiting their activism to social media.

This was not the first failed attempt. Last Sunday, a similar invitation circulated online, urging Cancun residents to gather at the same location at 4 p.m. and march along Avenidas Uxmal, Yaxchilan, and Tulum. The call claimed that Cubans were “taking over” those streets and dispossessing Mexicans of properties. That event also failed to materialize due to lack of participants.
