Rescuers Free Trapped Taxi Driver After Crash on Cancun’s Bonampak Avenue

Rescuers using hydraulic equipment to free a trapped taxi driver from a damaged vehicle on Bonampak Avenue in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver was rescued early Sunday morning after his vehicle crashed into concrete barriers on a major Cancun thoroughfare, leaving him trapped inside.

Emergency services received a 911 call at approximately 5:13 a.m. reporting an accident at the intersection of Avenidas Coba and Bonampak, in the Supermanzana 3 area. Firefighters, paramedics, and municipal traffic officers responded to the scene.

The taxi, bearing economic number 6471, had struck the median barriers at the intersection, trapping the driver inside the vehicle. Urban rescue personnel used hydraulic equipment to pry open the driver’s side door, allowing paramedics to access and stabilize the injured man before extracting him.

The driver was identified as Victor Manuel Vera Lila, 59. After being immobilized and stabilized at the scene, he was transported by a private ambulance to the IMSS clinic on Avenida 510 for medical treatment.

Municipal traffic investigators conducted the necessary procedures to determine responsibility, while a tow truck removed the damaged vehicle from the site.
