Armed Men Reported in Cancun Neighborhood Trigger Police Search

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A citizen report of suspected armed individuals in a suspicious vehicle prompted a large-scale deployment of security forces in the Alfredo V. Bonfil neighborhood and surrounding areas of Cancún on Sunday.

Officers from the Benito Juárez Public Security and Transit Department, along with agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office and federal agencies, began search patrols after receiving a call to the 911 emergency line.

According to unofficial information, the occupants were traveling in a blue GMC truck and were reportedly using a vehicle without official identification. The alert activated search efforts by the various participating agencies.

Sources close to the investigation said ministerial agents verified that the vehicle described in the report does not match the fleet registered by the State Prosecutor’s Office, ruling out any connection to an official operation by that agency.

The search focused on the Alfredo V. Bonfil area, where authorities conducted patrols trying to locate the truck mentioned in the citizen complaint. As of the time of reporting, neither the vehicle nor its occupants had been found, while authorities continued verification efforts stemming from the emergency call.
