Quintana Roo — The state government has launched a free mobile application called MAYA (Mujeres Acompañadas y Atendidas) to help prevent and respond to gender-based violence, offering tools such as an emergency button, legal and psychological counseling, and a directory of support centers.

The app, available for iOS and Android, sends the user’s real-time location to the 911 emergency system and the state’s C5 video surveillance network when the alert button is activated. This allows authorities to dispatch the nearest security units, reducing response times in dangerous situations.

In addition to the emergency feature, App MAYA includes a live chat with trained psychologists and lawyers specializing in gender violence, providing confidential emotional support and legal guidance without requiring a phone call or in-person visit.

The app also offers a self-assessment test to help users identify signs of violence in their relationships, aiming to detect risks early and connect women with timely assistance.

Using geolocation, the application shows nearby support services such as Women’s Justice Centers, public prosecutor’s offices, and temporary shelters, making it easier to access in-person care when needed.

To reach Quintana Roo’s diverse population, App MAYA is available in Spanish, Maya, and English, serving local communities, foreign residents, and tourists alike.

The app can be downloaded for free from the App Store for iPhone devices and Google Play for Android phones, as well as through QR codes distributed in official campaigns.

The development of App MAYA is part of Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa’s strategy to guarantee women’s safety through innovative tools, integrated into the state’s New Agreement for Welfare and Development, where preventing gender violence is a priority.
