Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — With 20 days left in the “Your Property Tax Up to Date” campaign, Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz is urging taxpayers to regularize their property tax payments and take advantage of current discounts on surcharges and fines.
The program, approved by the city council as part of efforts to support household economies, remains in effect until June 30. Residents can visit the Municipal Treasury office to learn about and apply for the available tax incentives.
Key benefits include a 60% discount on surcharges for homeowners whose property value does not exceed 20,000 UMA (Measurement and Update Units), equivalent to 2,346,200 pesos. This incentive applies to debts from the 2026 fiscal year as well as previous years.
The campaign also offers full forgiveness of fines generated in prior fiscal years, available to owners of both residential properties and vacant lots.
Mayor Merari noted that staying current on municipal contributions provides certainty for family assets while strengthening revenue for improved services, public works, and community programs.
Discounts do not apply to taxpayers with active legal proceedings against tax authority decisions. However, those who formally withdraw such challenges may qualify for the benefits.
