Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz delivered medicines, surgical supplies, and specialized equipment to the municipal Animal Welfare Department as part of efforts to promote public health, animal welfare, and responsible pet ownership.
The event took place at the offices of the Secretariat of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainable Mobility. The mayor said the materials will strengthen sterilization campaigns planned for the coming months, with a goal of treating more than 300 pets.
“With these actions we continue building a more responsible Puerto Morelos committed to the well-being of our companion animals,” Merari said. “Sterilization is a fundamental tool to protect their health, prevent abandonment, and strengthen public health in our municipality.”
Merari emphasized that a key objective is to curb the growth of the stray dog and cat population by promoting a culture of care, respect, and responsibility toward animals among residents.
She invited families to register for upcoming sterilization drives at the Animal Welfare offices on Almendro Street between Ramon and Cedro streets.
Environment Secretary Gerardo Rosas García accompanied the mayor and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with organizations that support animal protection, aiming to expand the reach of campaigns.
Animal Welfare Director Galo Macias said that starting today, 15 to 20 sterilizations will be performed daily at Planned Pethood International facilities through August 21. He thanked the organization for its ongoing collaboration.
