Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — A police officer was injured early Sunday during an alleged attack that occurred while officers were carrying out a security operation in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres, near the Riu Dunamar hotel in the Isla Blanca area.

According to preliminary reports, officers had been dispatched to the area after receiving a report about people suspected of criminal activity. During the intervention, an officer was attacked and injured. He received medical attention at the scene.

Authorities have not officially confirmed which agency the injured officer belongs to. Some reports indicate he may be a member of Isla Mujeres’ Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit, while others suggest he is with a state-level force.

Investigators are looking into the possible presence of armed civilians in the area, though this has not been officially confirmed. As of the time of this report, there was no information about any arrests, nor official details on how the incident began or how many people were involved.

Unofficially, the officer was transferred to Hospital General “Jesús Kumate Rodríguez” in Cancún, and his condition was reported as stable. That information has not been confirmed by municipal or state authorities.

The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation to determine what happened and whether armed civilians were involved. No official statement has been issued confirming the officer’s identity, agency, condition, or whether any suspects were detained.
