Playa del Carmen and Ultramar Sign Deal for Free Ferry Tickets for People With Disabilities

Officials from DIF Playa del Carmen and Ultramar sign a collaboration agreement at a desk.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The DIF Playa del Carmen social welfare agency has signed a collaboration agreement with ferry company Ultramar to provide free round-trip tickets for people with disabilities traveling between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.

Under the agreement, Ultramar will donate 50 monthly round-trip tickets for one year, exclusively for people with disabilities who need the maritime transport service. DIF General Director Deyanira Martínez Estrada and Ultramar legal representative Arturo Báez Vega signed the deal.

Eduardo Asencio, honorary president of DIF Playa del Carmen, said the support will help people who face daily economic and mobility challenges, especially those receiving care at the Municipal Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (CRIM), which serves more than 450 people each month.

Asencio thanked the ferry company for joining social causes and contributing to actions that directly impact families’ quality of life, ensuring equal opportunities and access to comprehensive support for those who need it most.

Arturo Báez Vega said that disability often comes with other needs, particularly economic ones, so the company decided to contribute to support both people with disabilities and their families.

The initiative is part of the social and human-focused policies promoted by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, who has prioritized the well-being of people with disabilities and strengthened alliances to bring more support and opportunities to families.
