Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Residents of the Palmas II subdivision are escalating their opposition to a planned infrastructure project on a green area, placing a symbolic closure to demand that work stop and dialogue begin.
During the action, demonstrators strung up tape, posters and citizen seals to show their rejection of the land modification. They argue the site is one of the few remaining areas with abundant vegetation in the neighborhood and that preserving it is vital for the urban environment.
Residents say they will remain organized and continue staging protests until there is clarity about the scope of the project. They also insist that any construction must ensure the protection of existing trees and take the community’s opinion into account.
The residents said the movement will stay active in the coming days and did not rule out strengthening mobilizations to prevent the intervention in the plot, calling the defense of green areas a priority for the growth of Playa del Carmen.
