Playa del Carmen Ramps Up Patrols Against Child Labor on Fifth Avenue

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government has reinforced its efforts to prevent and eradicate child labor, carrying out permanent patrols along Fifth Avenue and other strategic points of the city.

During the latest operation, led by Eduardo Asencio, honorary president of the municipal family development agency DIF Playa del Carmen, officials detected four cases in which minors’ rights were being violated. Authorities immediately activated response protocols to ensure the children’s care, protection and follow-up.

Since October 2024, more than 2,000 preventive patrols have been conducted in areas including Fifth Avenue, Avenida Juárez, Avenida 30, Colosio and Villas del Sol.

“Our government continues with permanent patrols on Fifth Avenue, led by the honorary president of DIF Playa del Carmen, Eduardo Asencio, to detect and address any situation that could violate the rights of our children,” Mayor Estefanía Mercado said.

Mercado also thanked the coordination with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Governor Mara Lezama, and federal, state and municipal security forces. “We will not lower our guard. We will continue in the territory, because in Playa del Carmen our children are cared for and protected,” she said.
