Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A private company has begun construction work along a 2-kilometer stretch of Paseos del Mayab avenue without prior public notice, affecting traffic and nearby neighborhoods, officials announced.
The work, which runs from Constituyentes Avenue to CTM Avenue and impacts the Palmas 1 and Selvanova residential areas, is expected to last approximately six months, according to Edgar Zapata, the deputy secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works in Playa del Carmen.
Zapata explained that the project will connect to a new substation on 135th Avenue to provide power supply not only to planned new residential developments but also to the Viviendas del Bienestar housing units along the extension of Juárez Avenue.
“This is part of what the new developments need to connect to municipal networks,” Zapata said.
Approaching the intersection with Constituyentes Avenue, the official acknowledged the traffic disruptions the work will cause, stating they will strive to be as efficient as possible.
Zapata added that officials have instructed the construction company to maintain quality standards and will monitor the project to prevent issues seen in other works that later required costly municipal repairs due to potholes.
