Playa del Carmen, Mexico — More than 25 street vendor stalls have been removed from the city center as part of a reordering operation, as they lacked valid permits or refused to vacate voluntarily, according to Antón Bojórquez, Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction.
Enforcement Operation Targets Unauthorized Vendors
Bojórquez explained that the actions, coordinated by the Directorate of Collections and Inspections, have freed up space along major downtown avenues, particularly on 30th Street, Juárez Avenue, and Constituyentes Avenue.
“There is a reordering effort underway, and we are upholding the law,” Bojórquez stated in an interview, emphasizing that these measures aim to ensure fair conditions for licensed businesses.
The official acknowledged vendors who voluntarily complied but stressed that unfair competition against formal businesses adhering to legal requirements cannot be tolerated.
Operation to Continue During Vacation Period
The enforcement operation will remain active throughout the current holiday season to maintain urban aesthetics and order in high-traffic tourist areas.
