Cancún, Quintana Roo — Students in Quintana Roo will not get a long weekend around Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations this year, according to the school calendar issued by the Public Education Department (SEP).
Classes will run as normal on Monday, Sept. 14, and Tuesday, Sept. 15. The only break in the school week comes on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when activities are suspended nationwide to mark Mexico’s Independence Day.
The schedule means families in Quintana Roo should plan for a single day off rather than an extended holiday, even though the patriotic celebrations stretch across two evenings.
Cancún Prepares for the Grito
In Cancún, residents and visitors can attend the traditional Grito de Independencia ceremony at the Palacio Municipal on Tuesday, Sept. 15, starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The evening will feature live music and dance performances, along with a concert by Mexican singers Lucero and Mijares at the same venue.
The celebration follows the pattern set in previous years, when the municipal palace has served as the focal point for the city’s Independence Day events.
