City mayor, Estefanía Mercado Asencio, stated that there are no discussions underway with shipping companies to offer residents a discount, a practice undertaken by the previous administration.
Despite a recent hike in ticket prices for the ferry route from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, the mayor has announced a potential twinning initiative between the two cities. This plan aims to eventually reduce maritime travel costs. A meeting with the mayor of Cozumel is anticipated to further support residents of both cities who frequently travel between them for work or personal reasons.
