Ciudad Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The transformation of Plaza Ejidatarios in Ciudad Mujeres reached a new cultural milestone with the inauguration of the mural “El Chiclero,” a tribute to the region’s chicle-tapping heritage.

The artwork, created by local artist “Meme” Sánchez Montiel, adorns the open-air theater of the newly renovated public space. Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde said the mural is a key element of the plaza’s new design, which aims to create an orderly, vibrant meeting point for families in the mainland zone.

The mural draws inspiration from the former chiclero camp El Porvenir in Rancho Viejo, honoring the men and women who helped build the early community of Ciudad Mujeres. Gómez Ricalde emphasized that the renovation goes beyond infrastructure, seeking to preserve local history and identity.

The mayor invited residents and tourists to visit the mural, take photos, and enjoy the upgraded facilities, reaffirming the city’s commitment to functional and aesthetic public works.
