Emergency responders at the scene of a motorcycle accident on a highway in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist remains unidentified at Jesus Kumate Rodriguez General Hospital after a traffic accident on the highway just before the Tren Maya bridge.

According to initial reports, the victim was riding a motorcycle when he collided with a white private vehicle. Witnesses called 911 for help.

Paramedics provided pre-hospital care and rushed the motorcyclist to the hospital due to his injuries.

National Guard officers from the Highway Division responded and are investigating the cause of the crash.

Witnesses said the car driver may have crossed into the oncoming lane to avoid a collision with a gondola-type truck or trailer, hitting the motorcyclist instead. Officials will determine the exact sequence of events.

The motorcyclist remains hospitalized with fractures in both legs and has not been identified by family or acquaintances. Authorities continue their investigation.
