Police officers at a crime scene in Tulum, Quintana Roo

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A 51-year-old man was injured in a shooting while riding a motorcycle in the Mayapax neighborhood Friday evening. Police arrested a suspect and seized a firearm and ammunition.

The victim, identified as Juan, a native of Tabasco, was traveling on Calle Géminis when armed individuals intercepted him and opened fire near Calle Ki’is. Despite sustaining gunshot wounds to his right arm and left side of his chest, he managed to continue riding to safety.

He reached a business at the intersection of Géminis and Sol Oriente, where bystanders called 911. Paramedics provided emergency care and transported him to the IMSS-Bienestar hospital in Tulum under a yellow code, indicating serious but stable condition.

Officers from the Tulum Public Security and Citizen Protection Department cordoned off the area to preserve evidence. A search operation led to the arrest of a suspect found in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to unofficial reports.

Initial accounts suggested the attackers fled in a red sports car. The detained individual will be investigated by the State Prosecutor’s Office, which has opened a case file to determine his involvement and the motive for the attack.
