Merida, Yucatan — The future of the Va y Ven public transportation system in Merida is uncertain as concessionaires claim they are owed more than 189 million pesos ($9.4 million) and warn they may take action if the funds are not delivered.

Transport sector representatives reported a significant delay in the disbursement of economic resources, which they say has made it difficult to cover operational costs such as fuel, maintenance, and payroll. The unpaid amount has accumulated over several weeks, according to those involved.

Concessionaires said that expenses continue to rise, making it unsustainable to maintain service under current conditions. They warned that pressure measures could be adopted if a short-term solution is not found.

The situation has raised concern among commuters who rely on the system for daily travel to work, school, and other destinations across the Merida metropolitan area. An interruption in service would affect thousands of passengers.

The companies involved are urging authorities to address the financial issue to avoid disruptions that would directly impact riders.
