Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a motorcycle taxi driver on Tuesday morning after he allegedly robbed an Oxxo convenience store in the city.
The robbery occurred shortly before noon in the Real Lucerna residential development, northwest of Playa del Carmen. According to the official report, the suspect entered the store and threatened the clerk with a replica gun while trying to take cash from the register.
Store employees reported the incident, and officers used security camera footage to track down the suspect. Unofficial reports say the driver, operating motorcycle taxi unit number 70, attempted to hide in the Villas del Sol residential development before being stopped at the intersection of CTM and Libramiento avenues, near the first park.
The amount of money allegedly taken in the robbery has not been disclosed.
Municipal police took the suspect to the public prosecutor’s office, where he is expected to be brought before a judge in the coming hours. The motorcycle taxi was taken to an impound lot.
