Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A body in an advanced state of decomposition was found Tuesday morning in a green area of the Villamar II residential development, prompting a security operation along Bulevar Playa del Carmen.
Municipal public services workers discovered the body while clearing vegetation on the roadside near Avenida Chemuyil and immediately alerted authorities, according to official reports.
Officers with the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) responded, cordoned off the area, and stopped traffic while agents and forensic investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office began their inquiries.
The victim may have been a homeless person, though authorities have not officially confirmed the person’s identity or the circumstances surrounding the death.
The remains were found in the undergrowth at the side of the road. Forensic personnel later removed the body and transferred it to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for examination.
