Cancun, Quintana Roo — The 21st Monologue Festival “Teatro a una Sola Voz” will take place at the Teatro 8 de Octubre in Cancun from July 9 to 15, 2026, featuring seven productions from across Mexico and one international collaboration.
The festival is organized by the federal Ministry of Culture, the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), the Benito Juarez municipal government, and the Cancun Institute of Culture and Arts.
The program includes performances for children, youth, and adults, reinforcing Cancun’s role as a key venue in the festival’s Central-Southeast Circuit.

The festival opens Thursday, July 9 at 8 p.m. with En Nombre de la Mancha, produced by De la Mancha Teatro Ilustrado. Written by Felisa A. Vargas, directed by Nohemí Espinosa, and starring Valeria Estrella, the 45-minute play is recommended for ages 8 and up.
On Friday, July 10 at 8 p.m., Jalisco’s Grupo de Teatro Dionisio presents 2012: El mundo se va a acabar, written and performed by Juan Pablo Hernández Salcedo and directed by Juan Carlos Ramírez Ruiz. This adult-only production is for ages 18 and older.
Saturday, July 11 at 7 p.m. features La tragedia de la gallina from Baja California’s Voces en Órbita, written and directed by Herbey Rayas with co-direction by Alexis Escobell. Recommended for ages 15 and up.
Sunday, July 12 at 1 p.m. offers Misky, a binational production from Peru and Tlaxcala by Tochtli-Estudio Nómadx and Gestus Humor y Artes Escénicas. Suitable for families with children ages 9 and older.
Monday, July 13 at 8 p.m. presents Emilio en las nubes, a collaboration between Hidalgo, Michoacán, and Puebla, written by Hasam Díaz Hierro and starring Carlos Cortés. For teens and adults ages 15 and up.
Tuesday, July 14 at 8 p.m. features Tierra sagrada by Yucatan’s Ch’i’ibalil Colectivo Escénico, blending contemporary drama with regional cultural elements. Recommended for ages 15 and up.
The festival closes Wednesday, July 15 with Los viajes del abuelo from Mexico City’s Proyecto Teatro Solar, written and directed by Mónica Álvarez and performed by Iván Tonaltzi Mondragón. This family-friendly show is suitable for children ages 5 and up.
Venue and recommendations
All performances will be held at Teatro 8 de Octubre on Avenida Chichén Itzá in Cancun’s Supermanzana 23. Due to limited seating, officials recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early, as late entry will not be permitted once the show begins.
