Mara Lezama Launches ‘PuenteyAndo’ on Nichupté Bridge With Over 6,000 Attendees

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa launched the “PuenteyAndo” program on Sunday, opening the Nichupté Bridge to pedestrians and cyclists for the first time. More than 6,000 people attended the inaugural event, walking, running, biking, and skating across the iconic bridge that normally serves only vehicle traffic.

The program is part of the state’s New Agreement for Wellbeing and Development, aimed at fostering peace through family recreation, active mobility, and public space appropriation. Lezama, joined by her sister and DIF Quintana Roo honorary president Verónica Lezama, rode a bicycle during the event.

For five hours, participants enjoyed activities in themed pavilions, including cultural performances, sports, and local food. Entrepreneurs with the “Hecho en Quintana Roo” label showcased local products.

State agencies, the Benito Juárez municipal government, and various organizations coordinated security, medical care, civil protection, hydration, and logistics.

The state government announced that PuenteyAndo will take place on the last Sunday of every month, aiming to become a regular recreational space for families.

Officials present included Rafael Hernández Kotasek, director of the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (IMOVEQROO); Landy Canché Pantoja, acting head of the Benito Juárez municipal government; and municipal secretary Pablo Gutiérrez.
