Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A lone robber held up a Yza pharmacy in Playa del Carmen on Monday night, locking an employee in the bathroom before escaping with about 3,000 pesos in cash, authorities said.
The robbery occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Avenidas Juárez and 125 in the Ejido neighborhood. According to initial reports, the man walked into the pharmacy, threatened the female employee, shut her inside the bathroom and took the day’s sales proceeds.
The employee told investigators her assailant had tattoos on his arms and was wearing black shorts and a white shirt. She was not physically harmed, but Red Cross paramedics treated her at the scene for a nervous reaction to the ordeal.
Police officers arrived shortly afterward and launched a search operation in the surrounding streets, but were unable to locate the suspect. State Prosecutor’s Office personnel reached the scene later and collected evidence to open an investigation aimed at identifying and locating the robber.
