Erasmo Catarino Nearly Drowns at Cancún Beach, Rescued by Raúl Sandoval

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Singer Erasmo Catarino had to be pulled from the sea at a Cancún beach after he walked into the water despite not knowing how to swim, according to an account published by reporter Ernesto Buitrón.

Catarino was helped out of the water by fellow singers Raúl Sandoval and Toñita, who were with him at the time. No further details about his condition were released, and there were no reports of serious injury.

Buitrón shared footage on social media of the moment Catarino was assisted by Sandoval and Toñita. According to the reporter, the incident took place while the group was recording a music video in Cancún and taking a few days off together.

The three singers had performed at a concert marking Mexico’s September 15 Independence Day celebrations before taking their break. Buitrón said Catarino, known as the “Conde de Xalpatláhuac,” entered the sea even though he cannot swim.

“Raúl Sandoval plays the hero and saves his friend Erasmo Catarino from drowning in Cancún. The singer pulled him out of the water with help from Toñita, since the so-called ‘Conde de Xalpatláhuac’ almost didn’t make it because he doesn’t know how to swim,” Buitrón wrote.

Who Is Erasmo Catarino?

Catarino rose to fame in 2005 as a contestant on the fourth season of the reality show “La Academia,” where he shared the stage with Yuridia, Cynthia Rodríguez, Jolette and Adrián Varela. The Guerrero native won first place on the show.

He has since built a career in music and recently moved into politics, serving a temporary term as a senator without setting aside his singing career.

Catarino and Sandoval, who also appeared on “La Academia,” are close friends away from the spotlight, according to the report.
