Isla Mujeres Opens Nominations for 176th Anniversary Awards

Officials at a press conference announcing the call for nominations for Isla Mujeres anniversary awards

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Municipal authorities have launched the call for nominations for three civic recognitions to be awarded during the 176th anniversary of the founding of Isla Mujeres, to be celebrated from August 7 to 28.

The awards are the Diosa Ixchel Decoration, the Don Alfonso Ríos Azueta Medal for Civic Merit, and the Lic. José de Jesús Lima Gutiérrez Medal for Tourism Merit. They honor citizens and institutions whose contributions have advanced the municipality’s development and strength.

Proposals will be accepted from July 1 to 31, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the General Secretariat in the municipal palace. The full rules are available on the city council’s official website.

Notably, the call does not include a drop-off point on the mainland portion of the municipality. Residents of the mainland zone who wish to nominate someone must travel to the island to submit their proposal.

The awards will be presented during the anniversary festivities, which will feature a broad program of artistic, cultural, and commemorative events, as well as family activities.

The press conference was led by City Council General Secretary Hugo Iván Sánchez Montalvo, accompanied by Culture Director Maricarmen Martínez Vera and Economic Development and Tourism Director Eyder Jahil Hoth Pérez. They invited citizens, civil associations, and institutions to nominate individuals whose work and commitment have left a mark on the history and development of Isla Mujeres.
