Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Isla Mujeres government hosted the Continental Chess Cup at the newly renovated Domo Hugo Ravell in Ciudad Mujeres, drawing nearly 60 chess players from Isla Mujeres, Benito Juárez, and Puerto Morelos.
The tournament, organized by the municipal sports department, aimed to promote chess as a discipline that develops strategy, concentration, and decision-making skills among children and young people.
The competition featured two categories: Under-14 and Open. Winners in the Under-14 category were Nicolás Hernández Radnai (gold), Aldo Dzul Cerón (silver), and Josías Adonai Trejo Pech (bronze). In the Open category, Jesús Martín del Campo Cuéllar took gold, followed by Jasper Uriel Smiers Guillermo (silver) and Ostin Taylor Flores Uc (bronze).
Municipal officials praised the participants and their families, highlighting that chess strengthens skills essential for personal and academic development. They also noted that the renovation of public spaces like Domo Hugo Ravell allows the continental zone to access quality sports and recreational activities.
