Major Crash on Cancún-Puerto Morelos Highway Bypass

Cancún, Mexico — Four people were injured on Wednesday morning in a serious accident involving two vans on the bypass toward the highway, directly at the entrance to the Cancún Maya Train station.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. when one of the drivers allegedly attempted to make a U-turn at a turnaround located under the bridge in front of the terminal. By encroaching into the oncoming lane, the vehicle was struck on its side by another van traveling in the direction of the Cancún-Puerto Morelos highway.

Due to the force of the impact, one of the vehicles ended up overturned with its wheels in the air, while the other was left with its front section completely destroyed.

Motorists who witnessed the crash stopped to assist the injured and request support through the 911 emergency number. Among the injured were at least four people, allegedly construction workers who were traveling in one of the vans.

Paramedics from a private company arrived minutes later to provide pre-hospital care and transport the injured to different hospitals.

Elements of the National Guard attended the site to cordon off the area and facilitate traffic flow, as the accident caused a long line of vehicles in both directions of the bypass.
