Cozumel, QRoo — On Tuesday, a ferry operated by the company Xcaret Xailing, transporting 65 passengers on the Cozumel to Playa del Carmen route, emitted dense smoke on board around 7:00 hours. The incident activated the vessel's alert sensors and generated concern among the travelers.
Upon arrival at the Playa del Carmen dock, federal authorities ordered the vessel to remain berthed under the supervision of the Port Captaincy. The order was given to conduct a thorough inspection to determine if the ferry could resume safe operations.
As a preventive measure, all scheduled routes for the day were suspended. Ferries from other companies were required to disembark passengers on the opposite side of the dock in compliance with safety protocols.
Personnel from the Secretary of the Navy, the company Xcaret Xailing, and the Port Captaincy were present at the dock to address the incident and guarantee the safety of all passengers.
