Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A cyclist died Friday night after being struck by a double-trailer fuel tanker attempting a U-turn at the intersection of Avenida 125 and Luis Donaldo Colosio.
Fatal Collision During U-Turn Maneuver
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the driver of the tanker, traveling southbound on Avenida 125, attempted to merge onto Colosio Avenue by executing a U-turn. During the maneuver, the vehicle struck the cyclist.
The impact left the victim partially trapped beneath the rear tires of the trailer, just inches from his bicycle, which was also crushed. Paramedics arrived promptly but confirmed the man showed no signs of life.
Investigation Underway
Municipal police cordoned off the area to secure the scene while forensic specialists from the State Attorney General’s Office conducted preliminary investigations. The victim’s body was transported to the Medical Forensic Service (Semefo) for identification.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased or disclosed whether the tanker driver will face legal consequences.
