Cozumel Red Cross Falls Short of Fundraising Goal Amid Economic Downturn
Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Mexican Red Cross delegation in Cozumel failed to meet its 2026 annual fundraising goal, collecting between 80,000 and 85,000 pesos — well below the 100,000-peso target needed to bolster its emergency medical services.
Andrea Martell Delbuis, president of the board, attributed the shortfall primarily to the island’s difficult economic climate, which has hit the business sector hard. Local businesses have traditionally been major contributors to the campaign.
Despite the overall decline, Martell Delbuis noted that individual donations from residents and tourists remained steady during the door-to-door collection drive held in April and May, helping to sustain the campaign.
She thanked the business community for their continued support, even as many reduced or suspended donations this year due to financial constraints. The Red Cross will continue seeking new ways to strengthen its income and ensure the continuity of emergency services for the community, she said.
