Cancún, Quintana Roo — The government of Quintana Roo has launched construction of the Cancún Sur Bypass, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving mobility in the state’s largest urban area. Governor Mara Lezama oversaw the groundbreaking of the 3.071 billion peso project, which will be carried out by the Mexican Army’s engineering corps.
The 14.85-kilometer roadway will connect Federal Highway 307 with the extension of Huayacán Avenue and the Tren Maya’s cargo station. It will feature two lanes in each direction, a bridge, a traffic circle, and a major interchange. Officials say the bypass will reduce vehicle congestion by 20 to 30 percent during peak hours and cut travel times to Cancún International Airport, the Nichupté Bridge, and the Tren Maya.
The project aims to ease daily traffic on Highway 307 and boost logistics connectivity by linking the Tren Maya cargo station with key economic zones. Lezama said the bypass is part of a broader strategy to modernize Quintana Roo’s road infrastructure and improve mobility for workers, residents, and tourists.
