Riviera Maya, QR — The State Attorney General’s Office reported that a heavily armed criminal leader of the CJNG was captured while driving in Cancún. Police stated that Ernesto Guadalupe “N” was wanted in connection with at least five murders between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
Ernesto Guadalupe “N” has been identified as the leader of a CJNG gang operating in Playa del Carmen. As a result of intelligence work and coordinated actions with members of the Interinstitutional Group, Ernesto Guadalupe “N”, alias “El Rayo”, was captured and identified as the alleged operational leader of the CJNG in the municipality of Playa del Carmen.
The arrest, carried out by Investigation Police attached to the State Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo with support from personnel of the Defense, Navy, National Guard, Secretary of Citizen Security, and Municipal Police, took place at Tulum Avenue corner Agua Street in SM 4 in downtown Cancún.
After a voluntary inspection of his person and the Chevrolet Captiva vehicle in which he was traveling, agents secured an arsenal composed of 11 firearms for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy, and Air Force (Mexican military).
Of the 11, six were long weapons, two caliber 7.62 x 39 mm and four caliber .223, as well as five short pistol-type weapons, all with loaded magazines.
He was found in possession of 11 loaded weapons at the time of his arrest in downtown Cancún. Similarly, he was found in possession of substances similar to drugs known as crack, marijuana, and pink pills, as well as several cell phones.
Investigations indicate that Ernesto Guadalupe “N” is linked to more than five homicides and disappearances of people in Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
The detainee and all secured evidence were made available to the corresponding Public Prosecutor’s Office, who will determine his legal status.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo reaffirms its commitment to continue investigations, strengthen intelligence efforts, and maintain coordination with federal and municipal authorities to dismantle criminal groups operating in the state and ensure the peace and security of all Quintana Roo residents.
