Car Crashes Through Median, Triggers Major Accident on Highway 307 in Tulum

A damaged Volkswagen Vento after a crash on Highway 307 near Bahia Principe, Tulum

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A serious accident on Federal Highway 307 near the Bahía Príncipe resort complex left one person injured and caused extensive property damage after a car lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic.

The crash occurred around kilometer 250 on the Tulum–Playa del Carmen stretch. Drivers in the area alerted emergency services via 911 after hearing the impact between two vehicles.

According to preliminary reports, a Volkswagen Vento traveling toward Playa del Carmen lost stability while on the highway. The car crossed the central median and entered the opposite lane.

It then collided with a Nissan Versa heading toward Tulum. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, with the Volkswagen suffering the worst damage, left nearly destroyed on the asphalt.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to treat one injured person, who was later taken to a hospital for further evaluation. The victim’s condition has not been released.

While rescue operations were underway, security personnel and road support staff set up flagging operations because vehicle parts were partially blocking both lanes, causing slow traffic in the area.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the accident occurred and assign responsibility. Unofficially, factors such as speeding or possible distraction have not been ruled out.
