Cancún’s New ‘Kilometro 0’ Bus Route Aims to Cut Travel Times by Up to 50 Minutes

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A new bus route designed to slash travel times to Cancún’s Hotel Zone will begin pilot operations in mid-August 2026, according to the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo).

The so-called “Kilometro 0” route is part of the state’s MOBI public transport system. It will run every 11 minutes along a 67-kilometer round trip, serving an estimated 159,449 residents across 173 neighborhoods and more than 60,000 homes. The route also connects to the recently built Nichupté Bridge, offering an alternative entry to the tourist corridor.

Imoveqroo director Rafael Hernández Kotasek said the route follows successful tests on the Ruta 27 Puente Nichupté corridor. “We will start the next test route in mid-August, which enters via Kilometro Zero, and then a third route in early September that comes along Avenida Cancún and touches Avenida Kabah,” he explained.

Hernández Kotasek emphasized the time savings for daily commuters. “One of the main benefits will be a reduction of between 20 and 50 minutes in travel times for those who travel daily to the Hotel Zone,” he said.

The Kilometro 0 route will be the second of three new MOBI corridors. The system aims to provide more orderly, efficient, and safe public transport in the greater Cancún area, which is home to more than a million people.
