Cancún to Host Community Kite Festival in Supermanzana 95

Children flying colorful kites at a community festival in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipal government has announced the Community Kite Festival, set to take place from June 24 to 26, 2026, in the Supermanzana 95 area. The event aims to promote traditional games, family togetherness, and community engagement.

Organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Welfare and the General Directorate of Education, the festival is part of the “Cancún unites us for transformation” initiative. Officials said the program seeks to reduce screen time among children and families by encouraging creativity, learning, and outdoor activities.

Kite-Making Workshops

The first phase of the festival features hands-on workshops where children can learn to make kites using traditional materials such as colored paper, wooden sticks, and string. The sessions will be held at the Lic. Rosendo Leal Sánchez Public Library, located at Calle 16 and Calle 105 in Supermanzana 95.

Workshops are scheduled for June 24 and 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Participants will develop manual skills and creativity while engaging in a community learning experience.

Mass Kite Flight

The festival culminates on Friday, June 26, with a mass kite flight from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the baseball field of the Supermanzana 95 Sports Unit, located at Calle 107 and Calle 16. The venue was chosen for its spacious and safe conditions, allowing families to gather and enjoy the outdoor activity.

Authorities emphasized that the event is designed to strengthen social bonds and revive traditional pastimes that have declined in the digital age. The festival is part of broader municipal efforts to promote cultural and recreational activities in Cancún’s neighborhoods.
