Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Authorities from all three levels of government have sealed multiple properties in the mainland zone of Isla Mujeres after inspections revealed suspected environmental damage and violations of urban and ecological regulations.
The inspections were led by the Isla Mujeres Municipal Directorate of Urban Development, Public Works and Planning, in coordination with the Quintana Roo State Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
Officials targeted irregular housing developments, material extraction sites and storage facilities across the mainland area, where they found irregularities linked to ecological harm and possible land-use violations.
As a preventive safety measure, authorities placed closure seals on some properties to halt activities that could cause further environmental damage.
The municipal government said administrative and legal proceedings will continue to determine responsibility and, where applicable, impose penalties.
The administration noted that the mainland zone has faced growing pressure in recent years from the proliferation of irregular subdivisions, extractive activities and material storage, prompting stepped-up territorial and environmental oversight operations.
