Cancun, Quintana Roo — Authorities from all three levels of government seized a large shipment of marijuana with an estimated street value of nearly 4 million pesos (about $200,000) during a raid at a home in the Barrio Maya neighborhood of Benito Juárez municipality.
The operation, carried out under a search warrant, took place at a house on Calle de los Quetzales between Avenidas 145 and De los Mayas. Investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office, along with personnel from the Mexican Navy, the Army, the National Guard, and municipal police, participated in the coordinated raid.
Inside the home, officers found and confiscated 332 packages containing green, dry plant material consistent with marijuana. Each package weighed approximately 500 grams, for a total of 166 kilograms of the drug.
The State Prosecutor’s Office said the seizure amounts to 6,640 ounces of marijuana, which sells for an estimated 600 pesos per ounce on the illicit market. The total value of the confiscated drugs is 3,984,000 pesos, representing a significant financial blow to criminal groups.
After completing the field investigation, officers from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combatting Drug Dealing sealed the property, which remains under official custody. The illicit shipment was turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to open a corresponding investigation file.
