Cancún, Quintana Roo — The municipal council of Benito Juárez has approved a process to review and validate files for the titling of commercial spaces in four municipal markets in Cancún, a step aimed at giving legal certainty to vendors who have occupied their stalls for years.
During an ordinary session led by acting mayor Landy Guadalupe Canché Pantoja, council members authorized continuing the regularization process for the markets Lic. Javier Rojo Gómez, Independencia, Nuevo Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Artículo 115 Constitucional, located in superblocks 23, 69, 94 and 28, respectively.
The agreement allows officials to review each file to verify that merchants meet the required legal and administrative requirements. It is also meant to complete a sale process initially authorized in 1991 and 1992 by decree of the state Congress.
Municipal authorities said the measure aims to provide vendors with property security, strengthen order in the public markets and give merchants documents proving legal ownership of their premises — a demand that has been pending for more than three decades.
