Guadalajara, Jalisco — Mexican rock band Maná is set to deliver a historic free concert Wednesday night at the Glorieta de la Minerva in Guadalajara, part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 celebrations.
Crews began setting up the stage early Tuesday, prompting lane closures on the central thoroughfares around the city’s most iconic roundabout to ensure no vehicles obstructed the work.
Later in the day, the Jalisco-born group held a press conference where drummer Alex González expressed the significance of performing a free show in their hometown for the first time.
“La Minerva, Guadalajara, and the history of the band — this is the first time we’re giving a free concert in the city where we were born, where those dreams of becoming a famous band, even just in Mexico, began. Look how far it’s come. We owe that to the fans, not just from Guadalajara but from all of Jalisco and all of Mexico, because this is where we started before going out to the rest of the world,” González said.
“We have no doubt it’s going to be a historic night. We want to bring a lot of joy, because this country needs joy and positive energy. There are many visitors coming to see Guadalajara, and we need to show that people from Guadalajara not only do things well but also know how to throw a great party with rock and roll,” he added.
Lead singer Fher Olvera shared the emotion of having performed at the opening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 11 at Estadio Banorte.
“It was incredible to see messages from Japan, Germany, France, Italy, and places we’ve never been. Many people saw us, even if only for a few minutes, and that made them discover our story and our music,” Olvera said.
Maná’s concert at La Minerva also marks the band’s 40th anniversary.
